Peter & Carol on the farmOur Story

We believe that good health is underpinned by good food and a healthy lifestyle. You just feel so much better if you eat properly!

Everything we do is motivated by our belief in using the finest quality raw ingredients, treated with respect, using minimal processing.

We started to produce yogurt at Stapleton in 1975. Our ambition was to produce wholesome and nutritious yogurt without additives, made with rich and creamy Jersey milk.

In 1986 Carol was awarded a Trehane Trust Award by The Nuffield Farming Scholarship Trust to travel to Russia, Scandinavia, Germany and the United States to examine the possibility of marketing kefir (a fermented milk drink) in the United Kingdom. Carol visited dairies and factories which manufactured a range of fermented milk products and returned to Devon with many fresh ideas. As a result of this trip, we became pioneers in the British dairy industry in the production of bio-yogurt (known these days as probiotic yogurt). Carol’s research also taught us the importance of the quality of fruit compotes used as flavourings and ever since we’ve prepared all our own fruit on site.

In the early nineties we got our first supermarket contract with the Belgian retailer Delhaize, which gave Peter a good excuse to start learning Dutch! In the same decade (in 1998) we got our first British supermarket contract with Sainsbury’s, which made our yogurt available throughout the country.

This resulted in an expansion of our range of yogurts and also led to the production of our luxury ice cream in 2000 for Sainsbury’s. Our yogurt is now available in branches of many of the large supermarkets.

Our dairy has changed over the years but it is still a family business run with integrity, pride and respect. We really hope you enjoy our products.
